Under the UAE VAT Legislation, businesses must register for VAT and obtain a valid Tax Registration Number (TRN) if they meet the eligibility requirements prescribed under Title 3 and Articles 6-8 in the Executive Regulation of Federal Decree Law No 8 of 2017.
The TRN (Tax Registration Number UAE) is a unique 15-digit number provided to each registered legal or natural person for the purpose of managing their VAT obligations.
TRN Verification: Why is it necessary?
The TRN Verification or Tax Verification is an essential check to assure the person charging VAT is eligible to do so and is formally registered with their accurate details with the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA). The check allows your business to verify the accuracy of the details on their Tax Invoice and minimized risks to your business in recovering any eligible input VAT recovery.
Carrying Out A TRN Verification
Conducting the check is a simple procedure on the UAW Federal Tax Authority website:
- Visit https://eservices.tax.gov.ae/en-us/trn-verify
- Enter the TRN of the supplier in the provided section
- Enter the Security Code as displayed on the screen
- Enter the ‘Validate’ button
- The entered TRN number displays the Legal Name of the Entity in English and Arabic to verify the accuracy
The UAE FTA has sought to provide this tool to assist taxpayers in assuring the authenticity of supplier-provided Tax Registration Numbers UAE to minimize fraud and incorrect input VAT claims. It is best practice to undertake the TRN verification to minimize risks under the FTA audit.
